A Matter Of Course – Jody Wenner

A Matter Of Course
“Bobby Davis discovers a bag of money on a job site, and what he does after becomes the undoing of everyone seated around him on the Orange Line: Marigold Winter is a thirtysomething assessing strangers on the train with perfect accuracy while lacking clarity about her own self; Lark Brooks is heading to a job interview for a position he thinks will fix all of his problems; an octogenarian is searching for someone to continue…

A shared tragic event sets complete strangers upon a journey of self discovery where each of them will find purchase and direction in the relationships they develop with each other in the aftermath.

I asked Jody how A MATTER OF COURSE came to be:

This story just came out of me feeling really sick about the current state of gun violence in our country, but I hated the idea of writing a tragic and sad tale, so I tried my hardest to find some positives from it.” – Jody Wenner

Wenner delivers and then some with a writing style that has a flowing pace and is a pleasure to read.  The characters are relatable, lovable and frustrating.  They could easily be someone you know; you may even catch a reflection of yourself as they navigate the highs and lows of what life has to offer.

Just like real life, the answers for each of them are not obvious. Wenner deftly strings the reader along keeping the last stop of their journeys in question until the final chapters.  Not all the stops might be what you expect.

While A MATTER OF COURSE is born in the hard realities of life, Wenner shows us what is possible when we are honest with ourselves, dare to hope and choose to act.

Inspiring and possibly tear jerking.  If you are up for an emotional and thought-provoking journey look no further.
