No one wants to hear about another person’s dream—unless they’re in it.<br> Bren Wendell, a Midwestern journalist, is compelled to write a column about a seemingly benign dream but worries it will be a career breaker; instead, it spreads like a virus. Letters start pouring in, and to the entire newsroom’s shock, they are not all written by angry boomers. Thousands of readers claim they’ve had the same dream. And somehow Bren has been deemed head…

Review:

The blurb sets the stage perfectly for Well, Well, Well. I consumed this one in two evenings. At 229 pages that isn’t exactly a monumental task but it is fairly quicker than normal for myself.

I’ll warn you, dear reader, that I am a Jody Wenner fan and have brought several people into my small but growing cult. My wife being my first convert. Our reading tastes rarely cross over. With Jody’s work we found a sweet spot that encompasses elements of mysteries and following characters on their personal journeys. Thank you for that, Jody.

As with Jody’s previous works, Well, Well, Well is character driven out of the gates. Bren and the supporting cast are introduced amid living their lives.

Jody’s ability as a storyteller transformed what could be considered the banal moments of everyday life into the hooks that reeled this reader into caring or despising the characters from the earliest pages.

With the hooks set I was all in and found myself invested in the characters well before Bren’s article about her dream steam rolls the world into hysteria. Jody accomplishes this with prose that I find to be:

🔸 smooth
🔸 flowing but not flowery
🔸 a read with an enjoyable rhythm and pace
🔸 well timed in plot advancement that teases the reader, me, into turning the page

In short, the act of reading Well, Well, Well is an enjoyable experience.

Jody excels at laying bare the humanity of her characters making it easy to identify with many of them or find reflections of your own family, friends, acquaintances and perhaps one’s own personal arch enemies within the pages.

I find that I not only had fun with this read, I also cared about the characters more than my usual reading experience. Well-done Jody.

Love, despair, drive, disappointment, betrayal, exasperation and, loss can all be found as Bren and cast live their lives.

Well, Well, Well did an excellent job of keeping me guessing about the nature of the dream. One moment I was convinced of one thing and the next I didn’t know what to think.

Frankly, I’m still not sure and that lives in my head rent free. That is a good thing, that lasting impression.

Is it aliens, paranormal, mass-psychosis, something else or combination of it all? You will have to read it to find out.

I highly recommend that you do so.
