SPARK OF THE DIVINE – Louise Holland

Lyrical Magic

“Louise’s prose is lyrical magic!”

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for Spark. I liked it so much I immediately pre-ordered a copy for my library. You should too.

Louise Holland presents us with an outstanding debut fantasy novel.

Fondly influenced by Holland’s adventures at the DnD table, she assembles a cast of characters that exhibit delightful and at times volatile chemistry that feels incredibly natural and satisfying.

The character development is incremental with essential bits and pieces revealed with excellent timing throughout the tale.

Of the cast, some you will love, some will have you puzzled and others you may take a decisive dislike to and then maybe change your mind.

Character motivation and growth are strong points in making this tale highly successful.

Our team of would be heroes, which range from the god touched, multiple species, and capable mundane humans. The stakes escalate quickly for them as they go from taking jobs for a bounty to saving the world.

I was absolutely absorbed in Holland’s world building.  A worthy stage is set with an intriguing system of multiple gods and their mortal representatives, arcane magic users, power-hungry sorcerers, and nations poised to go to war.

Good character dev and world building are nothing without a certain quality I love to find in a read.

I recently read a popular author who describes this quality that grabs my imagination and holds my attention as the author’s efforts are lyrical in nature.  For me, this equates to the narrative having a certain flow from line to line. Dialogue feeling natural and well placed. Pace of action being well timed. All combining into an enjoyable rhythm that keeps the pages turning.

Louise’s prose is lyrical magic!

Congratulations on a wonderful debut, Louise.
